A birthday feast at Roast

Four must-haves for my birthday lunch this year were:

1) Great food                        3) Bright lunch space

2) Gorgeous view               4) Beautiful Interior

Roast in the heart of Borough Market has exactily that.

Roast restaurant sits above the bustling Borough Market and is famous for its British cuisine with seasonal and local produce bought from the famous foodie market on the floor below.

The large open layout and industrial architecture transports every visitor to a skyline where views of The Shard, St Paul’s and even the market below can be admired. For the curious there are sightlines into the kitchen.

Drooling over the menu, we opted for a variety of fresh starters, meaty mains and classic desserts. The in house sommelier offered us the perfect Italian wine to complete our feast; Ciu Ciu Bacchus 2016 Rosso Piceno. His wine of choice offered soft, lightly spiced berry fruit and fine tannins which was a perfect choice for our feast to come.

The first dishes to arrive from the kitchen were a Chorizo Scotch egg with piccalilli (a twist on a British Classic),  Baby mozzarella salad with heritage tomatoes, watermelon and lovage pesto and lastly seared squid and octopus with romesco and asparagus. All emphasising fresh flavours with unique compositions.

Dining at Roast we couldn’t miss out on tasting their range of meaty mains. We ordered the Roast sirloin of Hereford beef with Yorkshire pudding and creamed horseradish, the chimichurri flat iron steak with gem salad and skinny fries and thirdly the 35-Day dry aged rib-eye steak (300g) with chips. To go along with our mains we chose a few sides, Creamed spinach with nutmeg, Grilled field mushrooms with garlic and parsley butter and Minted peas, asparagus and snap. The sizes of the mains were fit for the ultimate feast. The meats were tender and full of flavour and cooked to perfection. Roast prides itself on serving one of the best roasts in London and I can vouch this is in fact a delicious take on the Bristish Classic Sunday meal. Alongside our mains this British kitchen is also known for other traditional favourites such as Beef Wellington, Poached Cod and Welsh Lamb Rump.

There is no feast without dessert and so we dug into the Bramley apple and raspberry crumble with almonds and English vanilla custard and  the Sticky date pudding with toffee sauce, almond brittle and clotted cream. A sweet and delicious end.

It is not a birthday meal without blowing out a birthday candle, which the staff at Roast made sure of with a little sing along.

Roast is perfect for all occasions. It is popular for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as a wide range of events, from meetings and corporate entertaining to spectacular weddings and civil partnerships.

In addition to the above, Roast is continuing to develop exciting and innovative dishes so if you are not interested in a take of the classics try out one of new successes such as the Ultimate Roast Burger.
