The New Greek in London, Meraki Bar

In Greek ‘Meraki’ means to create something with your heart and soul. Meraki Bar follows this concept and captures this translation in high-quality Mediterranean cuisine, Hellenic hospitality and charm.

Housed over two floors the main upstairs bar is open to the public with a separate entrance on Foley Street. The exclusive Meraki Bar is a speakeasy living room bar housed below the popular Modern Greek restaurant, Meraki in Fitzrovia owned by Peter Waney, Alain Dona, Adam Bel Hadj and Laurent Manuel. Meraki Bar was created by the same group of entrepreneurs that opened Roka, Zuma, Oblix, Coya and The Arts Club. Launched in December 2018, Meraki Bar aims to bring the Greek lifestyle and social vibes to London. Channelling Hellenic ethos and prestige from various Greek destinations such as Mykonos and Santorini. An exclusive Grecian escape.

Once inside you will find a full cocktail menu of signature drinks and the finest Mediterranean ingredients from the late-night menu that you can enjoy whilst listening to musical beats from international DJs.

Being a Greek in London I was excited to taste, smell, see and hear what Meraki Bar has to offer. When entering Meraki Bar from street level my husband and I were escorted downstairs, to the invite-only secret bar where dim warm lighting, green tropical wall treatments, and lush velvet seating in rich colours awaited us. Curious of the ingredients and flavours we jumped right into the menu. For starters we were recommended a selection of cold and warm meze with the gem being the Sea bream Carpaccio with trikalinos bottarga, citrus zest and green apple. The fresh and full of flavour Santorini cherry tomatoes with thyme, caper leaves & goat’s cheese salad was perfection. Lastly the Octopus BBQ with wild oregano vinaigrette, grilled onions & capers was smokey and elegant.

To go along with our fresh and zesty starters we ordered two signature cocktails; the La Vida Loca with Tanqueray NO10 gin, hibiscus Mastiha, cranberry juice, orgeat & fresh basil and the Aoide & Melete with Tanqueray NO10 gin, fresh cucumber & green apple juice, homemade ginger syrup, elderflower cordial, lime & egg white.

Enjoying the intimate setting, the lounge music and rich interior with green foliage, exposed brick and vibrant orange walls is a great way to spend your Saturday night in London. The lounge vibes attracts all guests to socialise and become one big party.

The late-night dinner menu is an extension of the contemporary fresh Greek feast served at Meraki Restaurant, conceptualised by head chef Athinagoras Kostakos. Kostakos gained famed by winning Greece’s version of Top Chef, and later led the kitchen at the famed beach bar and restaurant SCORPIOS in Mykonos.

To honour the Chef's success and creation's we continued with the main meal ordering the Lobster “giouvetsi” a celebratory whole lobster with orzo pasta a perfect sharing plate for two. A real crowd stopper with beautiful presentation and even better flavour.

To bring the night to a sweet close we were served Loukoumades, which are Greek doughnuts with three toppings including chocolate, sugar, honey & nuts accompanied by homemade Mastic ice-cream.  To tie it all together we ordered two exquisite Espresso Martinis with Belvedere pure vodka, coffee liqueur and espresso; the best one I have tried so far.

Meraki Bar is a modern reminder of home with exclusive facilities, delicious food, creative cocktails and trendy beats.
